Re: RIP MIke Doyle
I only saw MD in his last season at City and with only being 7 i can't really remember a right lot about him sadly, so i'll leave the older guys amoungst us to comment on him.
Another sad day for City fans so soon after the passing of NY, however, with only Alan Oakes and Big Joe appearing more times in a blue shirt (please correct me if i'm wrong), "Doyley" really does deserve the status of a true "City legend".

Re: RIP MIke Doyle
I am truly shocked and saddened. Had the pleasure of being in his company several times and my heart goes out to his family.

Re: RIP MIke Doyle
Woke up this morning to hear this devastating news.
The word 'legend' is a word used far too often these days, but in my opinion Mike Doyle undoubtedly earned right to be called that.
I remember playing football at school and seeing the puzzled faces of all the other kids pretending to be Charlie George, Pele or George Best when I said I was Mike Doyle!
I have great memories of my hero in his beloved blue shirt.
RIP Mr Doyle.

I was shocked when I read this on the BBC this morning.
This man was the heart and soul of the Mercer Allison era. One of the greatest players ever to put on a football shirt.
My sympathy to all his family

Re: RIP MIke Doyle
Horrible, devastating news.
The word 'Legend' is bandied about too readily these days but this man was the full package. In many ways he was the face of City when I was at school because of his uncomprimisng style of play and his open dislike of United. Along with Tommy Booth, he was part of the best CB pairing we have had in my lifetime.
My main memory has got to be the Derby when he was sent off with Lou Macari after about 10 minutes, the atmosphere both on and off the pitch was so charged that the ref took both sets of players off the pitch to 'cool down' - Something I've never seen before or since.
The last time I saw Mike was about 1993 when he was sat in front of me in the Main Stand at Maine Road, Block A not the posh seats. Happy to chat with a supporter or sign an autograph before the match, watching the game with the same intensity as the rest of the fans as soon as it got underway.
Mike Doyle, true Mancunian and Blue Legend. RIP.

Just heard the news. Absolutely shocked !
Mike Doyle was one of THE City greats. Fantastic defender. Great captain. Remember him very well from when I was kid going to Maine Road.
Absolutely gutted. RIP Mike. You will always be remembered as a City legend

Re: RIP MIke Doyle
terrible sadness fills my heart.
Easily up there with the greats and not often given the plaudits reserved for Bell, Lee and Summerbee.
You didn't get past Mike Doyle at least without some body part missing.
Mike Doyle you are a true true legend and Manchester and Ashton are rightly proud of you. God Bless.

Re: RIP MIke Doyle
Could someone put me right here.
My mate's older brother used to refer to him as 'Tommy' Doyle and when Tevez went up to collect the cup in May the commentator also refered to him as Tommy when he listed City's previous cup winning captains. Was this a common nickname for him?

Re: RIP MIke Doyle
The last link on the OP referes to him as "Tommy" aswell, so i presume it was Boris. Don't know why though.

Re: RIP MIke Doyle
I can't remember us ever calling him Tommy. I can only think that some may have confused him with Tommy Booth, although that's unlikely

Sad - reading the stories about him. He must have been secretly thrilled that we won the pools and are back on the map. Pity that he died so young.

Re: RIP MIke Doyle
Just had to drop something off in Ashton and passed his funeral procession. 'Doyley' in flowers at the side of the hearse, with the balck and red striped top draped over the back of his coffin.
RIP Mike.
