HELP- Apple IT/virus issue Empty HELP- Apple IT/virus issue

Post by Topdawg Tue Jan 06, 2015 10:26 pm

I'm trying to sell my house back in the UK. I got an email from my estate agent yesterday which I thought was legitimate (because of the title of the email) and tried to download the zip file attached. It wouldn't open so I left it there.

My laptop has been a bit off lately (before this issue) running slow, running out of memory (too much videos, photos and music) and the start up disk is almost full.

Today it went too far and somehow my emails aren't working now. Each account is asking for the password (which I haven't entered just in case).

I realise now that the email I got from the estate agent must have been dodgy. I don't have any after market virus protection because it is supposed to be difficult to infect apples.

I'll be booking myself in to see an apple 'genius' as soon as I can (though that can take several days).

Any ideas of what I can do in the meantime to try and see if I've been infected and try and rid myself of this problem?

Don't really know what to do with regards your laptop, but is it not worth ringing your UK Estate Agent in the 1st instance....just to check if they definitely sent it.

If they did, your laptop problem might not be as bad as 1st feared.

http://download.cnet.com/1770-20_4-0.html?query=free+virus+checker&platform=Windows%2CMac%2CiOS%2CAndroid%2CWebware%2CMobile&searchtype=downloads

I use download.com for all of my software updates, etc. Free and very safe and secure - professional website company and all downloads are checked for authenticity.

Maybe you can download a couple of free ones for Mac and see if that helps.

I'll ring the estate agents today, but I'm sure that the email was dodgy. I'm very keen not to download stuff but looks like I got caught out. Some fraudsters/scammers are very devious indeed.

Thanks bluey. I've tried using that site but my laptop offers to download files as textedit (fucking useless) and I don't know what to change it to make it work. This is a right bugger.

Thanks for the link Bluey. I managed to download some free anti virus stuff and found 11 threats all linked to the ass of an estate agent (who still hasn't sold my house!).

Hopefully, everything is cleaned up now.
