They never even used to get 3000 in the lower leagues boy, believe me i've watched the Shakers at Springfield Pk and even little Bury had more fans there (that's a good guide for their support).
You're quite right in your assesment though, they will free-fall back down to league 2 once relegated this season and go back to having 1500 home fans.
