Thursday gossip
City seem to set to make a plunge for a left-back according to the press this morning - but which one?
The Independent reckons that "Manchester City finally began their summer's transfer business yesterday, moving towards a £7m deal for Arsenal's Gaël Clichy."
It would seem that the deal has not been entirely "inked in" (a Clichy cliché?) yet, as the player is out of the country at the moment but the piece written by Ian Herbert & Sam Wallace goes into detail on several of the players who have occupied the left-back berth in recent times.
But hang on a second - over at the Sun there's a different target in our sights. It's Leighton Baines - not a new name but one that we are keen to test David Moyes' resolve over, according to Phil Thomas.
"England star Baines - who cost £6m from Wigan four years ago - could raise £20m.
"City would be willing to cough up around £10m in cash for the 26-year-old PLUS two players.
"Emmanuel Adebayor and Nedum Onuoha would top the list of candidates, as Everton are keen to bring in a new striker and strengthen their backline."
Looking further afield many places reported during the course of Wednesday that City look to have cooled their interest in Alexis Sanchez, with words from Roberto Mancini on the subject. India's Sportal site is a fairly standard example of how that news has been covered.
There's said to be interest in James Milner from both Liverpool and Aston Villa - SportsnewIreland has this one, but their article says "according to caughtoffside and the Daily Mail", so it's not exactly hot off the presses.
And finally there's more reflection on the passing of Mike Doyle, and you should go straight to the Guardian obituary penned by the great Brian Glanville.

Re: Thursday gossip
Complete bollocks on the Baines thing. Do you seriously think they could afford Ade's wages?
Its also reported today that Blackburn want Ned for £6.5m, so if we give him, along with £14m Ade and £10m in cash for Baines, you do the maths, are these journalists fucking serious?

Re: Thursday gossip
Clichy = £7m + NO players = no brainer.
Narsi = £5m + Ade.......as lee & BWTAC said on another thread, actually sounds good to me too.

Re: Thursday gossip
Lee - thanks for posting a link to the Guardian obit on Mike Doyle. How ironic that it was City v Stoke (Stoke being his second club). Gave me goosies - especially as he died so soon after the Final.
