It sounds like Ings isn't the designated penalty taker to me though blue, as why would Matt Taylor be saying to Ings "do you want it, i'm happy to take it"?

If Ings was, Taylor shouldn't say a word.

Maybe, but a striker should be taking every opportunity to score.

Burnley's designated penalty takers are:

Vokes, Ings, Arfield.

If that's the case...and as i said, Matt Taylor should have kept his mouth shut then and let Ings get on with it.

I just think top class strikers always want to try and score.

Could you see Aguero letting Kolorov take it? No way.

And how many times this season, have we seen a player take a penalty from the designated penalty taker and miss?

Barkley, Miralles just for Everton.

Well it's quite obvious that Burnley/Everton don't have out n out designated penalty takers then.....whereas City do. If Aguero isn't on the pitch, then next in line (Yaya) will have the responsibility and so on.

The manager, his staff n players at these clubs are at fault then for not sorting this out, as it's such an important aspect of the game nowadays.

Agree....the club Captain should also be making sure that the designated penalty taker, takes it.

Matt Holland on TS was just talking about it and he said that he remembers at Charlton when he was captain, somebody other than the penalty taker, taking it and missed. At half time, the Manager went mental, not at the penalty taker - but at him as the captain, as all that had been agreed prior to the game.

I remember Henry not taking pens if he had been fouled for the pen. But at least it was all agreed beforehand.

I don't think this incident alone will prove if Ings will make it or not but he should have taken the penalty even though he may have been nervous and low on confidence.

BTW, haven't Burnley only scored one goal in their last 7 or 8 games?
