At what point do you walk away?

At what point do you walk away?
We've offered £25M and £5M of incentive based bonus for Raheem Sterling. It's been turned down. At what point should we walk away?
It's tough on one hand to think you are being rodgered over the price. If the guy goes onto to become a world star (a la Hazard), then he'd be worth the rodgering.
Part of me says pay whatever it takes and part of me says stop at a more than excellent offer.
I think £30M and £10M in add ons would be my limit. You might want it to be £35M and £5M add ons, but a total deal of around £40M tops. Then let the player push for the move. He'd be even more unsettled by all this and would be itching for the move.

Re: At what point do you walk away?
For me....if LFC have said £50m - pay £40m and £10m in add-ons.
£2m per trophy.
£2m per 50 appearances
Up to £10m.
I think we can't get into the end of July, still messing around over £10m. We need to be showing other players who we are in for, that we're serious.
Mess about and walk away over £5-10m may see him looking for another club....just get it done.
I'm sure City have a figure in mind - they're not going to just offer top whack straight away...I can see a bid of £35m + £5m in add-ons getting him.

Re: At what point do you walk away?
Maybe I'm just tight fisted. I'd say £1M per trophy (FA cup, CL or PL) over the next 3 years, £2M for 50 league appearances, £2M for 20 league goals. That's £13M in add on already!
Whatever way we do it, it should come in at £40M tops.
We are still in for de Bruyne, maybe Isco and Pogba and we can revisit Wilshere and Barkley (£30M max for each).
Why can't we play our hand and make multiple bids for different players? Bid £60M for Bale as well whilst we are at it.
Players can see who we are after and we aren't putting all our eggs into one basket. They'll understand that if they don't move quickly, someone else might and their chance is gone. Get them agitating for the move even more.

Man City to make £40m Sterling offer
Manchester City are determined to win the race for Raheem Sterling and will make a second £40million offer in the next 48 hours.
City are not surprised Liverpool rejected their opening offer of £30million last night, claiming they want over £50million.
The Blues were testing the waters and will return with an improved bid for the wantaway England star, which will be worth nearly £40million with add-ons.
They want Sterling done as quickly as possible and are keen to strike before their rivals can muster a competitive bid.
In a statement of intent, they are prepared to give Sterling a whopping contract worth over £180,000-a-week.
Although Sterling's preferred choice would be a return to his native London and Arsenal, he would be happy to move to the Etihad.

Re: At what point do you walk away?
We shouldn't need to offer anywhere near to £180k per week. £150k is too much for him.
Maybe the £180k is heavily incentivised.
It also shows that City have serious money to spend and FFP has been blown away.
