It's frightening....

when you can add these two players to a squad that is already - simply frightening.
This is where we need to be, instead of having Jesus Navas as our number one option.

And we could have got akexus Sanchez the other summer. What a huge difference he would have made to us.

typing whilst sat in the ER. son squished his hand in a wooden swing. fucking idiot. told him not to swing so high and fast and to keep his hands on the inside, not the outside. Did he listen to me? Like hell he did. Lucky he didn't get anything more serious than severe bruising. Saw a nurse, doctor, had two x-rays, saw the doctor again and got some medication all for £55. In an hour!

cheers guys. still in KL. supposed to be on a flight right now but youngest had an ear infection yesterday and doc said he shouldn't fly for a few days. Apparently, landing is bad for the ears whilst he has the problem and could cause the drum to burst. So the doc says. Had to stay an extra two days.

TBF...with a kid, it's not worth risking it. Normally, unless it's a serious infection, it shouldn't be a problem.
I've got an ear infection now - driving me mad, but have flown loads of times with them and nothing has ever happened, not even more pain...but an extra few days in KL is a great excuse to take the docs advice!!

2 extra days. more painting for the kids. more meals with my wife's friends. more lounging by the hotel pool. can't complain. and they miss at least one day of school!

Re: It's frightening....
Back in my Holiday rep days we had a number of times have to stop people flying because of ear infections. Usually due to cabin pressure, Airlines would not take responsibility should something happen to a passenger on their aircraft if they were in any way liable to take ill on the flight. All down to insurance i'm afraid.

Sadly, the cabin pressure argument is a bit of a myth.
The average aircraft pressurises the cabin between 6-9,000 ft cabin altitude. Imagine climbing to the top of any of the Munro's with an ear infection - or many of the Pyrenees ..the chances are you wouldn't feel any discomfort - just the same in an aircraft.
The ascent and descent is very gradual, so would rarely cause any serious issues...yet, as Oz says, the last thing we all need is a diversion due to a barotrauma injury...which could cost an airline in the region of £30k+....and the inconvenience to all the paxs....oh, and of course, the poor sod with the ear trauma.

Me too Moony - even if I don't have an ear infection - my ears hurt like hell on the descent of the plane. They don't recover for about 2 to 3 days. Can't imagine flying with a sinus or ear infection. Flew back from Atlanta last week (with a cold) and my ears were awful all week.

Back for the checkup. The pictures we saw two days back weren't nice. Lots of gunk on the wrong side. Can't take the chance of a problem especially since we have a connection so that makes two descents.

Try taking anti-histamines 24hrs before you are due to fly. It's probably a bit of mucus that's not shifted so the inner ear struggles to equalise at the same rate.

Not nice if they hurt for that long after a flight. What does the doctor say?

Re: It's frightening....
doc said to spray nose and clear it out an hour before the flight and an hour before landing. Also chewing gum or sucking on sour sweets can help.

Re: It's frightening....
I find painkillers 40 minutes before landing and rocking in foetal position helps..
one ear is completely shot so I it doesnt hurt, it's my good ear that gives me pain

Nasal sprays can help. The idea is that when you swallow, you remove the air in the inner ear. When there is a pressure differential between the inner and outer ear, that's when pain can occur. Mucus is generally the cause, trapping air in the inner ear.
Not sure how old he/she is, but Airwaves chewing gum is very menthol...this generally can clear the nasal passage.
Or put some Olbas Oil on a tissue and get them to sniff that in before and during take-off, then about 20 mins before landing (normally, when the Captain comes on the PA to say thank you flying with us, the seat belt sign will be switched on after that - and the descent commences) and during the landing phase.
I'd be loathed to use the 'hold-the-nose and blow' technique - I've known this to cause more serious issues.

Jesus, rocking in the foetal position???? Must be bloody painful.....maybe just get your other ear shot - then you'd have no pain!!

Think he was kidding Bluey.... nothing helps me - have to bow halfway thru descent to try and alleviate the deafness - helps a bit. Gum etc., doesn't help - sometimes a good yawn after we land helps.

wife says to me we'll stop 3 hours in dubai. I thought that wasn't too bad. Except that it was actually 5 hours. during the night. and i've become a nervous flyer again. probably just not flown that much over the last 2/3 years.

Where were you travelling to that you could get a direct flight? Every option I had to go from Manchester required a stopover somewhere.

Re: It's frightening....
There will be flights direct from Paris to KL with air France or MAS. Wife didn't fancy 13 hours in one go and wanted to stopover in Dubai for a few days on the way out. I was always a nervous flyer when I didn't fly much. When I flew every two weeks, nerves went. Now not flying much, nerves back.
