Overseas Utd. fans - ignorant as fook
Not a surprise really.
Driver to the wedding yesterday had a Utd sticker on his windscreen so I had a chat with him about football for 20-30 minutes. He said it was good to speak to someone so knowledgeable about English football. Someone who could explain why Mourinho failed at Chelsea, why LvG failed at Utd., why the challenge for clubs in England was so difficult and why so many were vying to win the league as opposed to the one horse races in Italy and Germany and the 2/3 horse race it's become in Spain.
But there was absolutely no reason he supported Utd except they win stuff in the 90s.

But that just typifies many Rag fans Dawg.....and Loserpool fans too.....tbh, it's the same over here really. Far too many fans want to watch winning teams and those 2 teams unfortunately did this in the 80s n 90s for far too long.

Yep. I told him Utd were lucky to be where they were when the big bucks flowed in in the early 90s. They bought the best players from top clubs (Yorke from Villa and Cole from Newcastle) thus making themselves stronger and their nearest challengers weaker. Just like Bayern are doing in Germany.
They are just like the rags back home, desperate for Jose to bring them back to winning ways. That's all that matters. I should see him again this week or next and I'll tell him about what Sheikh Mansour/MCFC has been doing for East Manchester and how they've significantly developed the area whereas the Glazer's are just robbing gits, not bothered about on field performances unless it affects off field money making activities.

Re: Overseas Utd. fans - ignorant as fook
The trouble in this neck of the woods dawg is the tv companies in the 90's limited the tv audiences to utd, Liverpool Arsenal & latterly Chelsea. The champions league also only showed the same teams as 9 times out of ten they were the ones that qualified. When I first came to Perth 1996 the news used to give out the results of those 4 only unless they were not playing. One station had an hour show of Premier league highlights & another called the world game would show every year the fa cup final. And that was your lot.
If it was like that in oz where a number of ex pats followed their own teams imagine how limited it was in the rest of Asia?
We got Foxtel satellite tv here in 1999/2000 so we were well behind the times in terms of premier league coverage but since 2007 they have more than made up for that. Until this year that is as the rights were bought by a telecom company Optus so Foxtel who's coverage was second to none now only get the champs league. They have purchased the top 6 clubs matches but are only allowed to show them 24 hours later. The top 6 being the 4 already mentioned plus city & spurs.

I hated that Oz....when I was living out there from 89-90, trying to get football results was nigh on impossible...thank god for the Internet!!
Oh, and I'll no doubt be complaining again this week...off to Riga in the morning - thank god there's no footy...except for the Bayern game.

Riga is good for sprats in oil ( one of the many lines I sell)!!!! useful info I know I didn't know the internet existed until 98 when we got our 1st Computer!!!. When I lived on the Greek islands before & the same time you were in oz till 93 we used to get all our messages via telex. Those were the days.

I don't remember exactly when I got internet, must have been 95 I think when I got a great job near the big smoke. I used to stay in my office until they were closing the building sometimes as it seemed such a hoot at the time.

we got our 1st computer when the wife wanted one for emailing her parents back in the uk . got an email address & I still wasn't 100% sure what I was doing or how it worked. A mate introduced me to Napster so I was able to download some real obscure songs that I knew from my youth, which was great then when that closed it was audio galaxy then finally limewire. It then became too hard so gave it up & started reading Football websites instead.

Re: Overseas Utd. fans - ignorant as fook
I got Internet access (of sorts) when I joined Compuserve late on in 1994. It took three years and numerous faxes to get them to stop charging my credit card!
I had a dial-up connection to one of the free ISPs that were springing up in 1995 and in 1997 I signed up for BT's Home Highway, a domestic ISDN service. I found a free ISP that allowed dual channel (128kbps!) connections, but gave it up after one month because it was so monumentally expensive to have two lines open at once. I then went onto C&W fibre in 1999 and have been on proper broadband ever since, going from a lowly 128kbps to the 40mbps I have now.
Working in the industry, having Internet access isn't a luxury, it's a necessity.

The missus is the big breadwinner in our household. I look after the kids and ferry them around to all their activities. I'm a glorified chauffeur and cook. Hopefully this bubbles business will kick off when schools start again. That's if we stay in France!
