Joey Barton.....
...."the way Man City have treated Joe Hart is disgusting. A player who's served the club for as a long as he has, I just find it disgusting". Talksport just now.
I'm equally gutted for Joe - however, if this was Zabaleta, would we feel the same?

remember it well :p
I thought it was more agents at that time, didn't Etuhu have an agent also messing us around, going to Preston for a bigger club at the time...?

We did feel the same, when he was dropped in favour of Sagna.blueboy wrote:I'm equally gutted for Joe - however, if this was Zabaleta, would we feel the same?
I'd hope Pep knows what he's doing. Watching the game yesterday, we could see he's instilled a greater work ethic and a ruthless streak which will serve us well. But that will all get lost if little Joe is scythed so clinically from the squad. Maybe it's up to Joe to step up to the plate now.

Re: Joey Barton.....
It's up to Hart. All the players now know that no one is safe. Perform and you have a chance. Pep is the boss and everyone knows it. Step out of line, and you're gone.
Slur Alex was also ruthless like this. The fans may not have liked thing she did at the time, but the trophy haul made up for their discontent.
Maybe it'll be the same for us too.

I think that's a really good point Dawg. Remember the outbursts over Beckham being sold, whilst still in his prime? Or Stam, Keane and RVN?

Yeah, but Zaba was dropped - he wasn't 'supposedly' being sold or loaned out at the time...he had to fight for his place and said so.

Re: Joey Barton.....
I personally think Pep's being a dick over this keeper situation.
To me it doesn't make any sense whatsoever to spend pretty big money on a 33yr old.....to replace a 29yr old, who's arguably still the best keeper in the PL.
If he was signing the 24yr old that Barca have (ter Stegen) then i could understand it a lot more....but this is just plain stupid.
Pep, sort your fucking life out and stop trying to show everyone you're billy big balls

I think the billy big balls is part of it Den. He's showing everyone who the boss is. He's got the backing of the top brass at the club (unlike Jose in the end at Chelsea) and can do pretty much whatever he wants. I'd prefer Hart to stay and fight his corner.

Re: Joey Barton.....
Pep doesn't want him, plain and simple. Bony, Yaya and Mango and possibly even Nasri can be added to this. I think because it's Joe we are all upset but he wants to win a certain way and doesn't think Joe can do this. We've been crying out for this sort of approach though looking back at MPs reign when he did fuck all. I like Joe though, so can understand why people are shocked.

I want him to stay and fight for his place with whoever we sign, IF, we do sign someone else. Willy can go for me.
Guess we'll have to await an announcement from the club.
Guess everyone in the squad need to accept this.

Re: Joey Barton.....
Hart should stay and work his balls off. Going to Liverpool is a step down. Going to Everton is an even bigger drop. No-one out of the top clubs will take him. He should shut up and work hard and try to win his place back. Unless Pep has told him that he doesn't want him whatever he does.

Re: Joey Barton.....
The trouble is if Pep signs a new keeper he will justify this by playing him, so joe will not get a look in. You usually find a managers signings are nearly always first on the team sheet and are defended to the hilt. I don't get this sweeper keeper crap though because after watching willy perform it last night I really don't think his distribution was anything to write home about, certainly no better than joe's.

Re: Joey Barton.....
I don't think going to Liverpool or Everton is a step down they are 2 strong sides in the premier league. he may have a few more saves to make but isn't that what keepers thrive on? Remember this is not the Everton of Moyes or Martinez. Koeman is a talented up & coming manager. Likewise Klopp at Liverpool.

No sorry dawg I disagree they are not a massive step down, step down yes but not massive Liverpool will be near top 4 this season if not in it. Everton will be around their also look what Koeman got out of
unfancied Saints. I think we should not underestimate how strong some of the clubs just beneath us actually are.

Re: Joey Barton.....
I'd have to go along with the general consensus here, there aren't any really poor teams in the PL. There can't be. The PL is fiercely competitive and not a single team in it can be classed as "easy meat" any more.
Any team Joe goes to will be instantly improved as I can't think of a single keeper in the PL who is even his equal, never mind better.

Re: Joey Barton.....
I still say that Liverpool and Everton are a big step down from City. When was the last time either club won any silverware?
Everton last won a trophy (FA Charity shield) 7,676 days ago. That's 21 years or so.
Liverpool last won a trophy 1,635 days ago (COC). That's over 4 yrs, though they've at least been in some finals since.

Re: Joey Barton.....
You know what...I've just watched a few minutes of a youtube clip of Neuer (The Sweeper Keeper)....I'd have fucking kittens if we get a keeper who does this? Suicidal and a lot of it is based on luck.
He's supposed to be excellent with the ball at his feet - the best in the world. He's supposed to be an excellent shot stopper and one who's excellent at handling crosses. He's supposed to have the touch of a MF player.
You'd think he'd never make any mistakes.

Yet, when Hart makes a handling error...the press go overboard. "He's no good down to his left"...I've heard this all day from City fans calling TS.
Really? How short a memory we all have.

Re: Joey Barton.....
My understanding of it is that the goalkeeper is employed as a makeshift sweeper - so instead of having a centre half be the last man to mop up loose balls, the goalkeeper does it instead.blueboy wrote:Before I make a comment about this 'sweeper-keeper' shite that is used, mainly, about Manuel Neuer...can someone please explain to me what their personal understanding is of this term?
Of course, the big worry about that is, if the sweeper cocks it up, there's a goalkeeper to cover, but if the keeper is doing it, there's nobody else, so you're relying on him to get it right every time.

He doesn't feel that Hart can work with a high line forgetting that Hart has worked wonders with a shite defence for the last couple of seasons.

I think the slag Joey Barton is right
Joe Hart is one of the best keepers in the world He has been a great servant to the club & doesn't deserve to be treated like this It's a fucking insult playing Willy ahead of him
Agree with Den It makes no sense spending nigh on 20 mill for a 33yr old who may be better at playing the ball out from the back. I doubt he is a better all round keeper than Joe. I'll be pig sick if we strengthen either dipper team by selling him to them

Re: Joey Barton.....
whilst I don't see Bravo as an improvement, the thing I notice about these video clips is that all keepers through their careers are prone to mistakes even the best like Neur. Sure Hart has dropped some clangers but so too did Courtois last season & David the gay at uniturd is no slouch when it comes to making mistakes. All keepers are prone to errors, but how many times has hart saved us from a total thrashing. i'm getting bored of all of this now. I will be sorry to see Joe go but if it has to be then so be it.

Keeper gets dropped and is employed by another club and gets a wage rise.
Sorry, he's not the best keeper in the world, nor is he the worst.
The manager doesn't rate him, and I for one trust his judgement.
The fact that it's Everton being linked with him says a lot about his ability. Why isn't it Barca, Real, PSG, Juve, Rags, Chelsea, Arsenal etc etc?
I will miss his hair and smile though.
Nice bloke but life goes on.

At the end of the day if he goes or stays is irrelevant. He's a footballer who will keep playing football, be it with us or someone else. Another footballer may or may not replace him blah blah blah.

Calm down dear...
I just think it was a tad harsh when you said:
The fact that it's Everton being linked with him says a lot about his ability.
I'm sure if Hart had been dropped by Pep in January....this summer, most of those clubs you've mentioned would be sniffing around him. As it's all come down to him not starting 7 days ago - it's a bit late for those clubs to be shifting out keepers and bringing in another one.
Arsenal - Cech. Was better, no longer is.
Chelsea - Courtois - was dropped by Jose and has had one good season - still think Hart is better.
Juve - Buffon said he's in the top 3 keepers in world football - think he'd love to work alongside Hart...and Hart is better right now.
Real - Navas? I'm not so sure he's better than Hart.
PSG - Trapp - definitely not better than Hart.
Barca - Ter-Stegan is definitely up there as one of the best keepers.
Out of all those teams you've mentioned - there's only Barca (plus Bayern) who play out from the back and rely on their keeper playing that additional CB role (and both started by Pep)....the other teams don't play that way.

I'm surprised that some of those teams aren't in for him or at least making polite enquiries. How long has Buffon got left as he's 39. Joe's good enough to unsettle Cech or play for Madrid.

Re: Joey Barton.....
Maybe they've not really thought about snatching a keeper, but if Joe suddenly appears on the radar then I suspect the interest levels to shoot up. The only reason Liverpool and Everton are even mentioned is because Mignolet is a shadow of the keeper he was and Howard has retired to the MLS.
