Could missing out on Alves be a good thing?

There's no denying that he's quality going forwards. He sets up lots of goals and still has a lot to offer at 34 year of age. But only in the very short term. There's also a feeling that he'd have been behind Mendy in the pecking order, but there would have been some rotation involved too so he'd have got plenty of games.

But if we do miss out on him, it may well be the kick up the backside that Txiki needs to get our other transfer deals over the line quickly. It may also mean we have to target another RB, preferably youngish or promote a kid.

In the long run, that may be more positive for the club as a whole as it shows you can make it from the academy or that we'll be targeting younger players for the long term.

I think we dodged a final pay day mates rates bullet. Zabba would have done the same job.

I don't think Zabba would have done the same job for us. He couldn't go up and down the wing like he used to do 3-4 years ago and was regularly getting skinned by young wingers.

Alves has still got good pace on him and will go forwards and come back.

At West Ham, I think Zabba won't be required to bomb forwards so much and that will better suit him.

Well, guess we'll today at 3pm if Alves has signed for PSG. I also think he still has something to offer and would make a great back-up to a younger RB, but, as you say, it may require further looking around Europe.

Mendy is left back though, so shouldn't be in the same pecking order.
I just don't know if we have the quality in academy at the full back positions that we do in attacking sense.

Good piece on Alves on city watch at the moment. Basically saying that he told Juve fans he was leaving because he wanted to fulfill an ambition to play in the premier league & at 34 had limited time left. He is quoted as saying " I do not platy football for money I play because I love the profession."

Sources now say PSG offered  Him 230,000 per week double the 115,000 city were offering.

The quote used on city watch says whilst their is no doubting he is a first class footballer his words are to Juventus fans are meaningless.

Alves is a greedy lying bastid. He only had dinner with Pep on 7th July!!!!!

PSG are welcome to him.  Obviously wanted a big pay day in the pub league, would have had to work in the prem.
