Pep's comments on CL
Pep has said in his comments about the champions league that we as a club are not ready to win it. Saying that the feeling from the fans isn't there,
With all the booing of the C/L anthem he has a point.
I for one would love for our club to win the C/L.
What does everyone else think

Re: Pep's comments on CL
I agree with you Nijinsky I think in order to progress as a club we do need to take the CL seriously. It matters to the very best players & if we want to attract the Messis of the future then we need to win it. I remember a few years back when Hazard was deciding between Chelsea & us he chose Chelsea because of their CL success. We all know why fans boo the anthem, but IMO we’ve made our point & should stop. I know that’s a controversial opinion right now, but it really shouldn’t be.

Like I said I know the reasons & I’m exactly the world’s greatest fan of UEFA, but there comes a point where you’re cutting your nose off to spite face

Re: Pep's comments on CL
that point should be when UEFA start to treat clubs fairly and with respect...
it started as a little protest against them, and they've never shown anything to indicate they could/would improve?

Re: Pep's comments on CL
It will take time for the old men of UEFA to retire so we have to live with it and I think the hatred the fans show towards them is playing right in to their hands.
The best way possible to piss them off is to win it and just ignore their anthem

Pep needs to actually come out and ask the fans to stop booing. But he also need to say he knows and respects why we boo.

Re: Pep's comments on CL
I don't think it's the booing of the anthem, or even our feelings about UEFA, that is necessarily the issue here. Pep wants us to get behind the team irrespective of the competition we're playing in and, having been to many CL games over the last few years, there seems to be a degree of apathy (or even antipathy) from the fans. We should be cheering the boys on even if we think the competition is as corrupt as all hell. As Nijinsky says, the best way to get under UEFA's skin is to just win the thing and damn them all and their dodgy ways.Topdawg wrote:Pep needs to actually come out and ask the fans to stop booing. Pep knows how to play the game. He's not mentioning it because that would give it more weight than it needs to have and would only serve to antagonise UEFA further. Right now, he's the only light we have (I expect, given his darling status as a manager) and if he became involved it would take that away and leave us in a weaker position.

Lets just stop the booing, we are not Liverpool.

Re: Pep's comments on CL
How about this: complete silence during the anthem, but everybody turns their back Poznan style & a huge cheer when its over. Elevate the support throughout the whole match.

There's a few different ideas but how do you get enough fans to do the same thing in order to get all the others joining in too?

IF FANS WANT TO BOO....I'M ALL FOR IT. JUST MY OPINION. YOU PAY YOUR MONEY...YOU'RE ENTITLED TO DO WHAT YOU WANT.

Exactly blue you pays your money...
In the Video Andy says that the booing has no affect upon the players, until I hear a better explanation as to why Lyon beat us, I disagree I think the booing sets the atmosphere at the game, as they say you only get 1 chance at a 1st impression.

Re: Pep's comments on CL
All I'll respond with is this:
Barcelona at Etihad - won
Napoli at Etihad - won
Monaco at Etihad - won
PSG at Etihad - won
Real Madrid at Etihad - drew
All super top teams and before each and every one of those games, the CL anthem was boo'd. Won all of those except a 0-0 draw against that years Champions....Real.
Nobody said ANYTHING...at the time the anthem being boo'd.
Lose one game....it's all down to the booing. Time we realise that in the bigger picture, 20 seconds of booing should NOT have ANY affect on the players who go on to play 90+ mins of football. All excuses.
I'm in the camp as you said, that people should choose what they want to do. I boo'd against LFC....but I'm of the opinion it's time we maybe stop....but I'm not gonna say it has any affect on the players. Just my opinion.

Re: Pep's comments on CL
I’d think about stopping if Pep directly comes out and says so but with some empathy for the reasons we boo

Re: Pep's comments on CL
it was said higher up, it's hard for the manager or above to publicly show empathy toward, or be seen to understand them reasons as it would reflect badly back upon the club.
Pep could easily come out and say yes UEFA are a bunch of Kanute's, and we would all agree wholeheartedly with him, but it wouldn't curry no favour with them decision makers in Europe.
To the other end, if we cheered, assigned a song (we're not really here) for the anthem instead, would it be seen to reverse the tide? would we be joining in, or just mocking more? would it beenfit more to keep the boo/silence in the ground as the options?
Personally I like hearing the away fans boo when we are away from home, lets me know the City fans are in voice in the stadium wherever we are...
personal choice would be sing over it at home...

If the club don't want to show us some empathy, then I'm happy to continue booing.

Re: Pep's comments on CL
It's a cup the club is desperate to win. Showing us empathy is effectively saying they agree with us and would just raise the question, "If you're so against the organisation, why are you so bothered about winning the competition?"
I think the fact they are remaining silent is enough validation. They could be asking us not to boo the anthem.

Re: Pep's comments on CL
They could say they want to win the competition and ask us to 'tale the pitch' along with them. We'd know what they mean by that. Might just be enough.
