Wingers the way forward?
Over the years City have had some brilliant wingers, watching Summerbee, Kidd, Barnes etc on you tube and although maybe not in that calibre i look back with fond memories when i think of White, Holden, Beagrie, Cooke, N Summerbee, Kennedy, Musampa, Sinclair, even Martin 'Buster' Phillips made me smile once or twice.
Now is the ideal time to unleash AJ and SWP and open teams up and spread the play wide instead of 15 short passes going nowhere, bring back the wingers Bobby, bring back the entertainment.

Would be good but I think Sweep is finished. Shame we let Weiss go on loan. Watched the Celtic Rangers Cup final & although Weiss only played for the last couple of mins of normal time & extra time, he was the difference between the 2 teams. A good turn of pace & running at defenders. Id forgotten what that looked like

Re: Wingers the way forward?
I think wingers are the way forward and tbh AJ reminds me a lot of Peter Barnes, he's busy, tricky, has a good (not blistering) turn of pace and is able to put a decent ball into the box. SWP sadly isn't the player he once was anymore imo and another winger would have to be sought, as Milners not an out and out winger. With Dzeko looking to thrive on crosses, wing play must be given a shot if not this season then definately next.
Obviously a lot depends on RM to bring this to the fore, whether he'd have to adopt a more traditional 4-4-2 formation to make this work i don't know (i know 4-5-1 would work too).

Re: Wingers the way forward?
I agree Swp is'nt the player he was and crossing the ball is still an issue but when he has played we look more threatening and it livens the game up, he has faults like most players but i think if he can have 3/4 games without getting subbed or dropped the confidence could improve his all round play. The other option would be to put Silva out wide right and rely on Micah to help him out and provide the pace, that would give us the 2 up top option. Just a thought on Milner aswell, i'm sure he provided the best cross of the world cup for Defoe from the RW, or we could tell Kolorov he is'nt trying to kill the ball every time he kicks it and use him wide left and AJ right. I'd just like to see some ambition and urgency because if we dont get top 4 i feel we could regret not giving it a go.

The problem is RM won't give SWP 3 or 4 games but i agree with what you're saying. Until Kolarov learns how to run at a pace faster than my walking, i wouldn't even have him on the bench. Gael Clichy (who's stalling over a new contract) would be a good signing at LB.
Personally i'd like to see him play AJ wide left, Silva & De Jong in the middle, with SWP/Milner (this season) wide right. Dzeko up top with Tevez supporting him/just behind him.
Again, we know this won't happen as Yaya always seems to start.

Young - YES, Clichy - YES. just the sort of signings i'd want, I like Albrighton as well but not sure he would leave yet as he is a Villa boy.....unless they get relegated.
I agree shaken, he wont drop Yaya and if he plays with wingers he'd probablly leave Dzeko on the bench and defeat the object.

Got to say, i don't see what all the fuss is about Young, granted i don't watch him week in, week out, but the times i have see him play live, he hasn't looked looked anything but ordinary. If you want a world class winger, go for Aguero.

Re: Wingers the way forward?
Young does have some Tekkers and good drive when he's on a good game. I think the odds are he will be in a United shirt before the start of next season though.
Albrighton, yep too young nowhere near the finished article.
If we just want balls into the box, David Bentley is probably the best in this country.
SWP, does need a run of games, but he was struggling with a back injury i read somewhere stopping him from doingmany full games, this could be why he's not been getting the nod so often.

Re: Wingers the way forward?
Young i rate very highly on his day, but like a lot of players consistency is a problem and his best games are against sides outside of the to 6. I rate loads of players but probablly not good enough to take us to the next level (downing, bentley, jarvis, etherington), dont know whats available abroad but could we tempt Robben or Sweinstiger?
I hav'nt seen enough of Aguero, watched 20 mins against Real the other night and he looked quality, is he up to the prem though?

Re: Wingers the way forward?
I said a few weeks ago about Cluchy stalling on a contract extension. I think he is the type of LB that we need, not only for his pace going forward, but he his good a defending too, unlike Kolorov.
A very quick LB a la Cashley Cole, means we don't have to sacrifice an attacking, creative midfielder to accomodate a winger.
For me - Clichy would be perfect for City.
As for Aguero - he is class......but as a left winger? Not sure.....more of a Suarez type of player.
Anyway...............Bellers is coming back!!!

Why do we need a left back?
Kolorov is a defensive colossus,an orange booted genius
