CL q/f is not enough for city fans
Taken from the Indy:
Quarter-final place may not be enough for City fans
With
one point from two games, Manchester City really need to beat
Villarreal in the Champions League tomorrow to give themselves a chance
of getting out of Group A. It begs the question, what constitutes a good
debut campaign in the Champions League?
In
their first season in 1993-1994, Manchester United went out in the
second round under the original format, as Leeds had the previous year.
Blackburn Rovers finished bottom of their group in 1995-1996. Newcastle
went out at the group stage in 1997. Arsenal were eliminated in the
group stages in 1998-1999 (finishing behind Dynamo Kiev and Lens).
Everton did not even make it through the qualifiers in 2005.
On
the other side of the coin Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham all made it
to the quarter-finals at the first time of asking. Yet you get the
impression that even if City make it that far, for many it will just not
be enough.
What an utter load of old bollocks. I'm sure most city fans would have taken getting out of the group as the minimum target for this season. Anything more would be great, but not expected as of right. I'd take getting to the q/f and winning the league if it was offered to me right now.

I'd take winning the league & losing every game in Europe for the rest of the season if it was offered to me right now

Re: CL q/f is not enough for city fans
I don't care if we don't make it to the QF. Yeah, so we'd have some spuds giving it out about how they got further, but they're now in the Europa league after relinquishing their spot to us. And they might not even get that next season if Liverpool keep their pressure up. It would shut them up if we qualified in back to back seasons.
If we don't beat Villareal tomorrow, I think we should take it as read we aren't getting out of the groups. As such, I think perhaps we should just dodge the Europa as well and put more focus on the league. If we can capitalise on the fact we'd have fewer games, we could mount a stronger challenge against the rags. I'd take the PL over the CL right now.
Still, we're not that hopeless. The rags have only got one more point than us in the CL and they got a piss easy group!
