Brahim - more youngsters we're linked with
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2470791/Barcelona-Manchester-City-chase-Malaga-14-year-old-Brahim.html
Maybe with the new campus not too far away, this is the route to go down. We've been linked with at least 4 or 5 kids tipped to be the next 'big' thing in their respective countries over the last few months.

Each of these kids is going to cost us a pretty penny and probably cost us plenty in wages.
If Barca had £2.5M turned down, then this kid may cost us upwards of £5M. I can't see him coming without getting paid a decent whack to start with.
If we do this with, say, 6 kids, we could be spending £20M plus each year in search of top talent and then wages on top.
I think we are looking at getting more local kids in (which cost us nothing in transfer fees and probably lower wages).
I can't see us getting any deal like Andros Townsend just signed with Spurs. 5 year contract at £15k per week!!!
Ok, I expect it has clauses so that he gets increase if he gets so many games etc. but that sort of figure is was below what the likes of Sturridge was asking from us before he left.
I think that will always be our problem. We may unearth some real gems, but it'll cost us plenty to find them.

I know, right? Fourteen and £2.5m isn't enough. They can pay me that. Actually, they can pay me a tenth of that, that would do me!

What if you sold that kid for 2.5m, 8 years down the line he is worth £100m and is now the most expensive player in the world...you'd be kicking your left nut.
Very unlikely mind, but they obviously see something in him. I reckon it was a clause reason for the rejection. They must want a certain % of any future transfer fee or something.

Look at the likes of Neymar.....he was touted for £18m 2 years ago....now worth??? £50-80m if he was to move from Barca. You won't get that return from any bank!
£2.5m is peanuts when you think we spent £3m on Demichelis!!

Re: Brahim - more youngsters we're linked with
so will necro-bump this thread in view of next week.
Diaz reportedly off to Madrid for £15m (plus extras).
I will say I'm sad to see him go as with him and Foden together I had hope they would both break through to the first team. It does appear that Foden is getting the edge though in our set-up.
Good sense for Diaz to get back to Spain, as a Spanish U21 he's got more stock over there, and it's not a bad thing for our brand in world football if City are selling youngsters to Real Madrid where they feel they may get more chances...
I will wish him all the best and hope he remembers his time with us fondly, and doesn't score against us in the Champions League final in a few years time..
With his initial transfer fee, and wages over the past few years, I think we've made a couple of million on the deal, obviously the extras could include sell on etc.
Will be a good thing for our academy if he goes to Spain and succeeds too, remember, they don't have to break through at City to be a success, see Sancho doing well in Germany.. it's usually "former City youngster", and that gets round with reputation and more young (good) talent will come off the back of this.
