Our worst ever buys...
Reading TopDawg's comment in a previous thread regarding our decent business (Silva, Aguero, Negredo), it got me thinking about our worst ever buys. Whether that be due to the amount we paid, their injuries or just simply their awful performances.
A couple scream at me straight away, rather recent but obviously Garcia and the legend that is Jo.
Other suggestions on a postcard...

Steve Daley. Broke the transfer record and he flopped, badly.

Re: Our worst ever buys...
Of recent purchases, RSC has to be right up there. Jovetic, though I think he'll come good eventually if he ever stays uninjured.
Sinclair was a waste of time as was Maicon.
Pizzaro, Wayne Bridge, Ben Haim,

We didn't buy Pizzaro, we loaned him. Plus, he wasn't that bad.
Lee Bradbury was a bit crap for three million, though.
Oh, and Jerome Boateng. He lasted a whole season, but we knew inside three games he couldn't cut it.

I disagree, I rate Boateng. He was constantly played out of position and didn't have the most luck then injury wise.leopold wrote:We didn't buy Pizzaro, we loaned him. Plus, he wasn't that bad.

He isn't doing too bad for Bayern. Quite a few medals.

Just thought of Bernardo Corradi couldn't hit a barn door from 2 yards.

I actually liked Bianchi thought he looked fairly useful in the games he played he always seemed to find the back of the net.

Re: Our worst ever buys...
Steve McManaman, not sure if he incurred a fee or not, but he was total crap. Very good at standing in the centre circle and pointing though!
How about Nigel Clough? Came on at Molineux in the pouring rain and went off cleaner than when he came on! Think we lost 3-0 and I got thrown out for shouting abuse at the poof. May have been a brilliant player, but that performance is all a will ever recall.

Re: Our worst ever buys...
Rodwell was a shocking bit of business.
A player who was out injured all the time at Everton and we go and take him off their hands for £12m
Scott Sinclair has played less than 190 mins of football for us at £8 million
That's £42,105 per minute !
RSC was on our books for 4-5 years. Cost 17.5 million, played only 20 times, scored 3 times and cost us god knows how much in wages Thanks Sparky !

Re: Our worst ever buys...
Michael Frontzeck still see him now giving away a pen at the swamp (think 95/96) total waste.. cant remember where he came from but still have nightmares.
Re: Our worst ever buys...
Bit harsh Den
He's not my favourite either but he has a pretty decent strike rate for us. He was 2nd top scorer in WC qualifiers & helped get Bosnia to their 1st ever WC
There's been far greater wastes of money

Re: Our worst ever buys...
Martin Buster Phillips... anyone remember him ? Alan Ball said he would be the 1st £10million player...we got him for £500K AND sold him for £100K (i believed him)
Re: Our worst ever buys...
Was said a bit tongue in cheek Tony. I know there's been worse buys over the years than him.....not many mind, but there has.TMG wrote:Bit harsh Den
