Any whizzes at Adobe Illustrator out there?

Me and technology go hand in hand like.... Pep and Joe.

So, I'm trying to design a t-shirt for a big gig I have in a couple of weeks time. Nothing fancy, just a black t-shirt with some wording, in white, on the front and back. Thought it'd be nice to have a picture too, but not totally necessary.

Anyway, t-shirt company in Manchester said Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop would be good formats to use. Got myself a trial version of AI and what looks like a reasonable stock picture but can't for the life of me do anything with it.

Watched a few video tutorials which didn't help at all and am about to watch another 30 minute one.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, it'd be a massive help.
