Dani Alves?

Dani Alves?
Really? He's about 34 isn't he?
It may be a rumour to help another deal go through or he may be a stop gap for a year or two as someone else develops or we go after a different player next summer.
The plot thickens.

Re: Dani Alves?
Heard this yesterday...£5m and a 2 year contract. Yep, he's 34, but he'd still be decent back-up after the way he performed in the CL....but as you say, may also be to put pressure on Walker and Levy as that has stalled with Spurs wanting more than £40m.

Re: Dani Alves?
A very experienced player at the highest level. Knows how Pep likes to play, useful sub when holding on to a slim lead in a difficult game. These kind of stop gaps are important in a transitional season when so many players are being changed at one time.

Re: Dani Alves?
If we wanted a stop gap for a year or two as back up then surely that's the role pablo zabaleta should've been given rather than a 34yr old who's never played in such a competitive league where you actually have to defend

Totally agree with Paul on this one improve the bloody squad not employ more geriatrics. Why get rid of zabaglione or sagna?

Re: Dani Alves?
We all love Zabba, but is he just fresh from setting up his side’s first three goals across the tie before scoring the fourth in the Champions League semi final?

Re: Dani Alves?
It is not a question of wether he did it in the champs league or not. To me it is more of a question of do we need a 34 yr old to play right back for city in the premier league or do we look to the future development of manchester city. A 34 yr old is barely an improvement on what we had irrespective of past history. If we go down that track then Zabba's past was hardly shoddy. City should be looking out for the future not replicating the maicon signing.

Re: Dani Alves?
If we were filling the ranks with 30 something's at £40mil a pop then I would be worried. One experienced player at £5mil on a short term contract is fine considering that recent buys have been in their early 20s & most targets are in their mid 20s at most.

Re: Dani Alves?
If the guy is still doing it at the highest level then why not? Zabba wasn't doing it at the highest level.

Re: Dani Alves?
Well he's got to officially deny it. If we get a skilled player for £5mil or he doesn't come & we end up with two 20 something right backs. Either way I would be happy.

Re: Dani Alves?
We've lost two right backs. Who knows if we ht our major targets in that position so he may be a useful backup or end up as 1st choice. I'd still like to see one of our academy kids as backup.

Starting to wonder if we may end playing three at the back next season.

That's bizarre. Why would a club, who know they'll get at least £5m for a player and are guaranteed to sell him, rip up his contract???

He bought out his own contact? That's the only thing I can think of. Still I'm scratching my head too.

Re: Dani Alves?
They claim the same in the Mail...Juve agreed to tear up his contract. Nothing concrete...but a very bizarre decision. It isn't like he's been there for 15 years.

Re: Dani Alves?
€5 Mil is just small change at this point, but a free transfer is still better. 100k a week with bonus for winning PL & CL all pretty reasonable, what's Nasari on again?

Now that's a better deal a freebie. If it don't work out then what have we lost.

Re: Dani Alves?
The Sun says "The Brazilian full-back, who is also wanted by Chelsea, is understood to be close to agreeing a £100,000-a-week contract" Goal goes lower "
It is reported in Italy that he will earn around £4.3m per year, which works out at roughly £85,000 per week - the same wage packet offered to Nolito last summer"
either way not a huge amount by top 6 Premier league standards

Jonny Evans to get a £100k paw contract from WBA puts it into perspective
