Gamble not paying off. Everytime Stirling has the ball Chelsea end up with it. This game is crying out for Ferdi
Change it now Pep before it's too late.

Re: Team for CL Final
An unnecessary gamble. Take Sterling off and put Fernandinho in the centre as he should have st the start

why oh why does Pep f**k around with the team in important games???
He did it last year against lyon I though he would have learned his lesson, stick to what your good at

Re: Team for CL Final
Once again trying to be too clever. Chelsea’s strong point is their midfield and Pep just gave it to them by not starting with either Rodri or Fernandinho.
Strangely I’m not at all pissed off because we got exactly what that performance deserved.
And can someone please explain how Sterling gets anywhere near our first team. Shocking, abysmal player

Re: Team for CL Final
Sorry, I’m afraid I can’t shed any light for you, guys. Dino needed to start. Dino would’ve stopped the ball from ever getting to Havertz. Dino would’ve let Gundogan play further up the pitch where he’d do more damage. And Dino would’ve stopped Bernardo from starting, which is a good thing as all he seemed to do tonight was spin in circles, like he’s got one leg too short. Seriously, he did it twice when there were no Chelsea players near him. Also, I’d have had Jesus on from the start instead of Sterling. He caused their back nine so much trouble when he came on and if he’d been on longer, they’d have been knackered well before Sergio got his cameo appearance and we might’ve scored, drawing the game into extra time where we’d have battered them as they’d have had to chase a goal themselves, leaving themselves more open to attack.
On the whole, we started too nervously and we weren’t creative enough to break down their defence without a striker to latch onto the balls whipped into the box. And with Kev having an unusually poor night, we needed Gundogan to pull the strings, which he couldn’t do because he was lumbered with Dino’s job. But the main failure was in the team selection; everyone knew Chelsea would park the bus. Well, everyone apart from Pep, it seems.
Positives? Well, Dias showed once again why he cost so much, Walker worked tirelessly and to good effect, Zinchenko was good (apart from his error, which was partly on Stones for getting drawn out of position and mainly on Peo for not starting Dino), and Foden and Jesus put in big shifts too.
Still, for our first major European final in 50 years, we didn’t exactly embarrass ourselves, and next time we might not be so overwhelmed by the occasion.

Re: Team for CL Final
all the talk by city players b4 the game all the rhetoric being spewed out by the media. overwhelming favorites need to win to justify the billion spent i' m over it so disappointed and pissed off its hard to think rationally.
The only thing that really annoys me is some twat on the aussie broadcast said its a massive step backwards for city how many more billions do we have to spend to win it? we might be set back so far now we may have to start again???? really? just need a top replacement for serge and 1 for ferna and we should be there or there abouts.
Why not engage brain first? how much did chelsea spend only to lose their 1st final. They managed 3 years later to come back and win it and still spent a fortune....

Re: Team for CL Final
For all the adulation heaped on Pep by the media and many City fans, he has to hold his hands up and admit that this was a tactical screw up tonight.
As many here have already stated, he should have had a holding midfielder in place rather than play, as I and many others have repeatedly stated, the USELESS Sterling.
I was so disappointed to see Sterling was starting, he has been relegated to the bench for the last few games due to his inept performances yet Pep sticks him into the UCL final ??? WTF was he thinking?
Pep gambled on City being able to hold onto possession and pin Chelsea back but the failure of players like Sterling to control the ball of pick the right pass undermined this plan. He wasn’t the only player below par tonight but he has been consistently poor this season.
I really hope we offload Sterling quickly as he has only gone backwards this season and I really don’t see him improving.
Next season we go again, with a couple of additions hopefully.
Well done Chelsea, deserved winners.

Re: Team for CL Final
The daft part is, if Pep was gambling on us keeping possession then surely Dino is an automatic choice, right?
I felt his team sheet was more about balls-to-the-wall attack, which is a bit like using a sledgehammer to crack a walnut. But by having no recognised striker, it’s a sledgehammer with the heavy end made of sponge. You can’t play a false nine against such defence, you need strikers, who can dart into the spaces. Having Foden as the false nine is wasting his skills, you’d need him to play the killer pass, not get on the end of one. Honestly, I’d have preferred Sterling in that role. I’d have preferred Jesus or Aguero more, though.
Either way, Pep forgot the basics of bus parking: Thwart the attack and hit on the break. It was inevitable that Chelsea would do this, given that’s exactly what they did the previous two times just a few weeks ago and we lost both to the same tactic. Not playing Dino is dangerous. Not playing either him or Rodri is suicidal. But Pep displayed one of the signs of madness; doing the same thing again and again, and expecting a different result. And that’s not all of it, either. Doing that meant Gundogan was too deep to be effective, and when he pushed forward it left us exposed at the back. I like Gundo, he’s a good player and he’s really shone this season, but he’s not a DCM - not a criticism, just a fact. And not having a striker just meant nobody was ready for the umpteen balls that went into the box, giving their keeper an easy night. Again, not going to blame Foden, he’s not a striker and, honestly, putting that pressure on him may be a sign of the faith Pep has in him, but it’s not appropriate.
If we’d played Dino and Jesus instead of Bernardo and Sterling (neither of which gave us anything last night), we would’ve had a chance. As it was, we weren’t incisive enough to win and not defensive enough to prevent conceding on the break. With Dino holding, Gundogan could’ve pushed forward to support Kev (and he needed it badly, and wasn’t getting it from Bernardo). Without Sterling, Foden would’ve played on that flank, and he and Mahrez (supported by Walker and Zinchenko, both of whom got up well last night) would’ve been raining balls into the box all night. That would’ve got Chelsea’s defence very tired and then we’d have had the manpower of Jesus, Kev and Gundo, along with whichever of Foden and Mahrez were free, to get in that penalty box and cause them real problems.
Sorry Pep, you’ve done well to get us all the trophies and the way you got us to win the league from a dead position was masterful, but I’m questioning your genius right now.

Re: Team for CL Final
Yep Pep has to take the majority of the blame I’m afraid. Really mind boggling decisions when as you say Chelsea had already beaten us twice using the same tactics. Sterling has been in poor form so God knows why he was given a start. Just stupid not having at least 1 DM when it has worked so superbly all season. Pep has now done this unnecessary tinkering a few times now & it always seems to fail. If it’s not broke don’t fix it FFS !!
