Liverpool should get more share of international TV deal
Leading Premier League
clubs should be able to negotiate their own overseas TV rights,
Liverpool's managing director has been quoted as saying.
Ian Ayre thinks English sides will be left behind by European
rivals if they continue to be tied to a collective agreement, which
expires in 2013.
He told the Guardian: "Is it right that the international rights are shared equally between all the clubs?
"What we are doing is disadvantaging ourselves against top European clubs."
The current broadcasting deal for overseas rights is worth
£1.4bn to the 20 Premier League clubs, with matches shown in 212
countries.
Under current Premier League rules, 14 teams would need to vote in favour of any new arrangements.
Ayre reportedly believes that Liverpool - along with Manchester
United, Chelsea and Arsenal - deserve to receive an increased share.

The 'big boys' will always vote in their own favour.
where are manchester city in that list mr ayre?
i went to a sports direct near paris yesterday and there were no liverpool shirts on sale there. that wasn't because they had sold out. they only had city and utd shirts and were selling the city ones faster.

Re: Liverpool should get more share of international TV deal
Tbh Dawg i think he has a valid point but whether they get 14 teams to agree to the change is a different matter. The likes of Wanky, Swansea, Fulham etc aren't going to vote for the change are they, so it probably won't come to fruition anyway.
I think we have to remember City are an emerging team in the Eastern world, whereas the other teams Mr Ayre mentioned have been regular CL teams for the past 5-10yrs. Times are a changing though Dawg.

Re: Liverpool should get more share of international TV deal
that's one of my points shaken.
liverpool are slipping slowly down the ladder.
no champs league and no title challenge.
next year maybe they will get europa league.
by 2013, city may well have won the league and they are the driving force in the premier league at the moment.
maybe pay the money in order of finishing order of the premier league.
maybe pay in order of viewing figures (easy to do with sat tv).
but don't just ask for more money because of your 'history'

Just one thing about this is its a gamble for Liverpool. They have increased their market in the far east due to success in the prem and Europe. This only has a finite life (ask Leeds) if they dont get European football their credability and support will begin to dwindle in the far east and the TV rights with eventually be less than the money for 7th or 8th place.

Spot on lee, they're fearing for lost revenue. The same thing happened with Wanky a few years back, when they were struggling in the PL. If you remember their Chairman (Phil Gartside) proposed a 2-tiered PL, fearing decreased revenue if they got relegated. Thankfully, his proposal got thrown out but sadly they sacked Megson and stayed up. I'm waiting for him to propose it again in the coming days, as his shower of shit continue to struggle.

Re: Liverpool should get more share of international TV deal
just going back to my shirts reference.
a few years ago, chelsea shirts were all the rage in france because they were doing well.
you'd find utd, liverpool, chelsea and arsenal.
now that arsenal have slipped up (and buying non french players), you don't see too many of their shirts for sale.
the same has happened to chelsea and liverpool. chelsea were in the chumps league final only a few seasons back and it wasn't long ago that they won the premier league.
fall back for 2-3 seasons, then people tend to forget you.
liverpool have lasted so long because of their 70s and 80 success and the champs league final from a few years back has helped but people will forget them as well if they have 3-4 fruitless seasons.
if the y can get this extra cash from 2013, then that will help to sustain their challenge. they need the money after their splurging only to be chasing a europa slot.

Re: Liverpool should get more share of international TV deal
They certainly would ONH, but only last week, your great piss can of a manager said that although clubs should be getting more from foreign TV rights, the current system in integral to the competiveness of the Premier League and shouldn't change.

Re: Liverpool should get more share of international TV deal
It won't happen, how can they get a minimum 14 clubs to sign up for this when it would only benefit 6 at the most, with the rest losing out and falling further behind? Total non starter.
