How times have changed at United
Rooney, in 2010/11, held the club to ransom when their were rumours we were in for him. United then gave him a new contract of £250,000 pw and assurances over their transfer dealings.
Forward a few years: Rooney and his agent identify the predicament that United find themselves in. What do they do to help? Nothing, just expose their situation to make more waves, ask for money and assurances.
United deal with this issue by giving Rooney a £300,000 pw deal, the Captain's armband and assurances that he will be told about all transfer dealings in the future.
Really shows you how 'in control' of the team and club David Moyes is.
Sounds like Rooney is now the main man at United, more so than Taggert.....to be able to call all these shots.
Now, if this was a City player dong this...........exactly what would the media and opposition fans think of it, especially if it was a foreign player - let's say Aguero?
£300kpw.....and we're ruining football???

Rooney and Captain in the same sentence, i chuckle everytime i see that
Let um pay him 300k/pw, he ain't even that good anymore....i mean, does anyone really fear him now?
Utd are simply in decline and trying to secure one of their 2 best players to club by paying way way way over the odds.......mark my words, RVP'll be knocking on Moyes' door before the season's out.
Oh, and as for the Aguero comparison blue....it's pointless, as it'd never happen.

And when you read the rumours we are in for Bacary Sagna in the summer (wtf?)....who has been on £60,000 pw for the past 6 years....it does make you think how mad football has gone.

I know that Shaken.....he's no mercenary.
Yeah, be funny when RVP knocks on Moyes' door and says he wants parity....Moyes tells him he will have to check with Rooney......RVP goes back on the treatment table for another 6 months!!

So much for Taggart's assertion that nobody is bigger than the club. Rooney clearly doesn't agree.
I doubt Serge would do any of that crap, but I'll tell you now, he's worth it!

Re: How times have changed at United
They really are hanging themselves with this deal, because they're now tied to it and it's going to be unviable if they don't get Champions League money next season.
And, just as we have found out in the past, nobody will be able to afford to take an over the hill striker off their hands when he refuses to take a pay cut.
I love the fact that he needs 300k a week to kiss that badge!

Re: How times have changed at United
Talkeshite have been saying since their troubles that all Rag players have to take a 25% pay cut if they don't get Champs League.
Good Luck with that now. Or is Ruiney (see what I did there) just factoring out his 25% drop.

Re: How times have changed at United
Missing out on CL is a big dent. Utd. get about £25M just for participating. League position is very important apparently (difference between 1st and 4th is £13M).
Gate receipts and other bits and bobs must be worth a fair bit (I'd guess £10M).
If they get Europa league, they can still get about £10M plus their gate receipts.
If they get nowt they will be crying as that would be about £40M less than this year!!!
And they'll have to get mercenaries in as which top player will accept no CL footy unless they are paid stacks?

I know 2 people that work at Utd and both have said it's seriously bad news for the club if they don't qualify for the CL (don't exactly know what that entails).......i just laughed when he told me.

Re: How times have changed at United
Brilliant!
I can almost hear the conversation:
Mata: Okay, so that's the contract signed, what happens now?
Moyes: Well, all that's left is for you to pick a squad number.
Mata: Cool! I'll have number 7 please.
Moyes: Ah. That might be a problem...
Mata: Really? I checked the team out and you have no number 7 currently.
Moyes: Yes, that's right.
Mata: And I'll be playing in the number 7 role, yes?
Moyes: Yep, that's the plan.
Mata: And you WILL be putting me in the first eleven, because you promised, right?
Moyes: Absolutely! We wouldn't have spent so much otherwise.
Mata: So what's the issue?
Moyes: We need to keep the 7 shirt free.
Mata: Why?
Moyes: Well, it's so we can get Cristiano Ronaldo back. He won't come if the number 7 shirt is taken.
Mata: What??
Moyes: Not me, that's coming from the board. So, any other number you'd like?
Mata: Oh, this is just great...
Moyes: Right, 8 it is then!

Re: How times have changed at United
Actually, just re-reading that, I can see the conversation much better this way:
Mata: Okay, so that's the contract signed, what happens now?
Moyes: Well, all that's left is for you to pick a squad number.
Mata: Cool! I'll have number 8 please.
Moyes: What, not number 7?
Mata: Nope. Eight.
Moyes: Erm... But we were rather hoping you'd have 7.
Mata: Sorry to disappoint you, but I want 8.
Moyes: You do know the history of the number 7 shirt at this club, don't you?
Mata: Oh, yes, I understand it's been worn by your most noted players in the past.
Moyes: Indeed. And we believe you could be one of those.
Mata: Well, that's very flattering, but I'd rather not.
Moyes: Why?
Mata: Well, face it, this team is crap, so why would I want to be remembered as the number 7 of the crappest United team in history? No ta, I'll have 8.

Re: How times have changed at United
One of my most enjoyable moments was today. Have a customer who is not only extremely wealthy - but also a huge Utd. supporter, tickets in the Directors box, signed shirts Beckham, Cantona, Goergie Best - I could go on. He flies back to blighty from Florida just to go to certain matches - with his kids. Hobnobs with Fergie etc.
When he came in the bank today, he was trying to avoid me - but I collared him and had some fun - especially after we've hammered Utd, Arsenal, Spuds twice etc. He could hardly look me in the eye, ha ha ha. As a final barb I really made him cringe when I asked him who they had drawn in the FA Cup.
I did give him a hug though when he was leaving. He's a good sport really cos I was merciless.

Re: How times have changed at United
Now...to just show how in control Gollum is of his new club:
David Moyes has admitted that Robin van Persie’s importance to Manchester United is so great that the forward has now been given the final say on whether he is fit to play for the club.
“All the things I am doing, I am taking from Robin. He is a player who is so important to us that I need to know exactly where he is at. Even the day he pulled his thigh against Newcastle [in December] we had said, ‘Are you better coming off the bench?’
Rooney the new manager, Van Pussy as his No.2.
