Ashley Cole?

Reading the Telegraph and they reckon that Chelsea are signing LB Filipe Luis from Athletico (as well as Costa). They will cost them about £48M. Cole wants to stay and may well be offered a new contract but he's already not first choice and could end up being third choice. The Telegraph also reckon Utd. will get Luke Shaw.

I don't know Cole but he seems like a bit of a toerag and he's 33 years old, but he could easily do a job for a couple of seasons. As a defender, I think he's still better than Clichy or Kolarov.

All clubs are looking for ways to bend FFP and Chelsea seem to have hit upon a good way by buying up lots of young talent and then loaning them out. Lukaku looks on his way this summer for at least £20M. Torres will probably be gone as well.  Courtois seems worth well in excess of £20M and I'm sure they've got a few others that they can make some money on. That'll help them to balance the books.

I wish we'd done the same and either found ourselves with young talented players for the first team or young talented players that we could sell on to help with FFP.

Cole's English, experienced and still looks like he can do a good job. I agree, he's still a better defender than Clichy and Kolorov, I also agree he could do a job for 12-24 months...but as you say about youngsters...isn't it about time we started to invest in youth?

We all want youth but we want to challenge as well. If Kolarov is wanted by the Italians, we could try and replace him with Cole as well as try yo blood a youngster.

Rather than fannying about with the likes of Cashley, IF we were in the market for a LB then we should be chasing Luke Shaw. Simples!

Yes, Shaw is a better long term option, but we may not get him.

Who knows what's going on. We are by far the best choice for him. Playing in front of Hart and alongside Zabba, Vinnie and Malanga in the CL should be more than enough for him.
