What he should have said is... Luis is a thug, a sneak and a liar - and he's finally owned up to biting Chiellini.  If he hadn't - then it would have been difficult to sign him at Barca.  Simples

I just took it as read that this was the subtext. Nobody's allowed to say the actual truth any more, it's all in the spin. They clearly have no issues hiring a lying, sneaky bite merchant as long as he's (eventually) honest about it, but they can't actually say that because they'd be then bombarded with the question of why they're so keen to hire someone with such poor qualities. Even though the answer is clearly, "When he's not biting people, he's damn good at his job."
