Will our spending follow Chelsea's pattern?

Will our spending follow Chelsea's pattern?
After spending shedloads on the likes of Drogba and Essien, Chelsea slowed down drastically.
In the summer of 2004 they spent over £80M
In the summer of 2005 they spent over £60M
In the summer of 2006, they spent about £70-£75M.
Summer 2007, 4 free transfers and spent £18.5M
Jan 2008 they spent £27.5M on 3 players
Summer 2008 £23M
Summer 2009 about £20-£25M (depending what they paid for Sturridge).
I guess our spending may well follow a similar pattern in that we have done with the big spending now and will buy just one or two quality players in the transfer window and hope to get some freebies too.

Yeah, but then they upped it last season with a couple of signings.......including the bargain £50M Torres.
You need to spend big at the beginning to build a winning formula, after that it's just about tinkering with things here and there. As you point out, this is exactly what Chelsea did and is exactly what City are doing now.

I'll be glad when the spending cools down. It can't be good for team morale when you're thinking you may be replaced in the next transfer window. We're only a couple of players short of a top notch squad anyway.

Joint 2nd boris we alreadfy have a top notch squad, now we need to push on, a couple more signings but more importantly field a team that now knows how to play together and win things.

you want players with the mental ability to deal with the fact that other quality players may be added to the squad and their position may be under threat if they don't perform. you want them to thrive on that. if they can't handle that, they won't make it to the very top.

We're should be trying to establish a team ethic. The way Bellamy and Adebayour were treated won't foster that.

Bellers was given his dream move to Cardiff and Ade ended up at Real, I dont think they did too badly.Bellers worked hard but no matter what you dont tell your manager through the press that you will train your way and sod what he says, well if you do you dont expect to play. And you dont go on the pitch all smiles when the ball runs within an inch of you and you cant be arsed to stick a boot out. They were not mancini players and chose to play it their way....the manager is always right even when he's wrong. Hughes did the same thing, as did pearce, in fact the only manager who all the players liked was Sven, well until Ireland started currying up to Hughes but thats a whole different story.
