Good win that though, 6 points to Chelski and looked so much better at the back today really, even with Calamity Mango

Thought Mangala did well.....the problem was, with those stupid tackles likes DeM and Kompany does....if he doesn't make that tackle in the first half, the one he got a second for wouldn't have mattered.

I think he was very unlucky to get yellow cards for those tackles. Both were borderline bookings for me.

Hart made some good saves - even though he doesn't kick the ball out well. Joevetic was disappointing in the first half for me - but overall when their backs were to the wall - they took their chances well, defended well and got the job done. Hope they can do the same on Wednesday - another team in red and white stripes.

Re: Soton v City Live Thread
So much negativity! We were playing away against a team that have conced just one goal all season and are unbeaten at home. We thumped them 0-3 scoring twice with 10 men and to listen to some on here you would think the score was 3-0.
Yes Toure was caught in possession leading to Mangala's second yellow but VK was covering and he did not need to make the challenge, same with his first yellow, unnecessary!
Overall Toure had a decent game. Navas and Joveatic are not good enough but this was a good team performance despite the poor officials.

Kompany would never have got across. Mangala had to go for it.

Not sure who his making out it wasn't a good performance. I think like me, some are just pointing out what you said, Navas and Jovetic are not good enough.
They were both average at best today...again.
I thought it was a good battling performance...and I'd also like to say well done MP for making his subs at the exact right moment in bringing Milner and Lampard on.
I think it was a great result against a good Soton team who as you say, have conceded very few goals.
I'm happy....just think there are some players that have to do damn sight more for the team. The 2 mentioned.
Given the option, I'd have a free signing in Lampard over £40m+ Navas and Jovetic - both are fucking useless IMO.

I don't think we've been too negative. In the first half a few players didn't contribute enough. That pisses us off. Jovetic and Navas were especially poor and Mangala and Clichy engaged in som poor play. We say what we see.

See that effing tit Clichy scored. Good for him - he was MOM for me.

Re: Soton v City Live Thread
He was looking dodgy in the first half. I'm happy with Aguero getting MotM with two assists, being a threat all the time, having a blatant, stonewall penalty turned down, other good passes creating chances for bozos like Navas.

MOTD 2 last night highlighted how Navas nullified their LB who has been getting forward in the last few games creating chances. So at least he helped out defensively even if he does nothing going forward.

Re: Soton v City Live Thread
Always thought he was good at tracking back....but that's not what we bought him for. He's a winger, they are at least meant to take players on or be able to cross a good ball 25% of the time. He does neither.

Re: Soton v City Live Thread
his workrate is top drawer but I'd like to see him produce going forwards occasionally.
I'm sure Sinclair would work just as hard and produce just as little...

thought it was a good team performance and the lads showed some backbone. I dont know why all the negative remarks of certain players.

Re: Soton v City Live Thread
Most comments were during the match or just after it finished. Navas' job is to create chances and score goals. He generally does neither. He tracks back well but, if that was his only requirement, then someone else could do it.
Mango got sent off for two dodgy tackles and looked uncomfortable throughout. Hardly an endorsement for the £32M spent.
We played pretty reasonably overall. I even said that we looked like the team of last year early on in the game.

Re: Soton v City Live Thread
I dont think Navas, Mangala, Cliche or Hart were that bad to be fair. Navas needs to work on his crossing but most of the team are shit at crosses and corners except maybe Jimmy, overall i would say Navas was ok on Sunday. I still believe Mangala will get better he is young and new to the Pl. Cliche i thought played well too and even scored, yes he made an error or two but so does every player. I think we sometimes unfairly expect too much perfection from some of these players. 15 minutes into the second half Dawg you stated that we would not even keep a clean sheet, we went on to win 0-3

Re: Soton v City Live Thread
I said unlikely to keep a clean sheet. We've had about 4 in over 20 matches and they had some chances so I think I was being fair in my assessment. As Bluey says, you want your winger to be able to take men on and cross the ball. 1 in 5 successful crosses is pretty bad for a winger even in the lower leagues.
Most of my ire was directed at Nazas and Hart. Hart still cannot distribute the ball well. That is frustrating since he has plenty of time to practice.

To be fair mate, every footballer being paid at least £100k a week should at the very least be able to cross a football, not just a winger!

Re: Soton v City Live Thread
I don't think I or Dawg during the game were too harsh, especially for me..
I just think when you are watching the game and commenting on here, you say it like you see it - live.
I'm sure you MCM and others watching the game made some comments as it happened - like "take him on", or "get a decent cross in"....that's all that happens on the live thread and directly after the game.
I personally, think Navas is shit in what he was bought to do. I think Jovetic has had plenty of opportunities so far this season to show us why he was worth £20m+....and apart from one or two games, he's been bang average for me.
It's all about opinions....without them, this forum wouldn't be worthwhile.

I think Joevtic looked promising in pre season and at least he has a go. Navas couldn't beat an egg.
