Stoke vs City - Live Thread
First topic message reminder :
Ok....so a massive game tonight after such a poor January and last Saturday.
The manager seems to think he isn't under any pressure and still believes we can bridge the gap to Chelsea. He also believes we have been playing well...but fuck knows how!!
He was asked in his press conference about the system and players he chose on Saturday and he seemed to dismiss this with the excuse that we hadn't scored in 2 games prior to that...however, I wish somebody would have gone a little further and asked if he really thought 2 DMF's and 2 strikers with no width was going to bring about a great performance!
So, on to tonight. Stoke have some injuries but it won't matter, they've been playing well lately and scoring goals. Hughes always has them up for us, so I'm not expecting an easy game, but what I am expecting is a different bloody set up and different personnel!!
So, for me, I'd go with this:
...............................................Hart......................................................
Zaba......................Vinny............................Mangala.....................Clichy...
..........................................Fernandinho.................................................
Navas.....................................................................................Milner......
..........................Silva......................................Nasri..............................
................................................Aguero...................................................

There we go - 3-1 now. Looks like Wiekens isn't the last person to score a winner for us against Stoke any more

Stoke had a go at us and that's been their downfall.

You want Edin to score...or just run a bit?

Wow, I think we have a ref in our favour! Clear pen there and Mango would've been off. Or maybe he's not, as he's not banned for 3 games...

Said for two seasons now, Nasri has been exceptional. As good as Milner is at what he does, if Nasri is missing then we lose that creative option and the ability to retain possession up the pitch.
He's perfect for Pellegrinis system.

Totally agree. He might not be the fastest at attacking, but he's a very clever and very creative player. We've definitely missed him.meltonblue wrote:Said for two seasons now, Nasri has been exceptional. Don't understand how Southampton aren't winning - Hammers down to 10 men, their keeper sent off and Jaaskelainen on in his place, getting absolutely battered. Come on Southampton, ruin the rags' night!

Every time Dzeko touches the ball he knock £1m off his value
Leave him on the bench

Fuck, Chelsea have scored. Damn.
Hardly surprising though, Everton had Barry sent off just before.

Great. Chelsea win at the death and Southampton can't beat 10 man West Ham. Only helps the rags. Still, a win's a win, I suppose...

Re: Stoke vs City - Live Thread
Thought I'd leave the in-game commentary so I could read it afterwards....have to say, I can see why members have a go at me sometimes.
Dawg.....stop it with the Mango thing. He had a really good game tonight.
Agree though, Kolorov is one greedy one-trick pony.
Aguero is nothing short of genius and that's why I said yesterday, we should NEVER sell him. Nobody in this country could've been fouled like that, get up and carry on to score like he did. No-one.
Melton...agree. Nasri was exceptional tonight and as long as MP makes the right selections, he shines. His touches were sublime tonight and his goal was well deserved and brilliant.
Milner....I think everyone has said all that needs to be said about this fella.
Dzeko....sorry, but still a fucking lump of a cart-horse and nothing, and I mean NOTHING will ever change my mind about him.
Thought Silva was unusually quite tonight....but I guess he was happy to give the play making role to Nasri.
Vinny and Zaba...agree, still look 50% off where they were 2 seasons ago.
The Ferdy's went about their business quietly....nothing special but did a job in a formation that allows them to sit.
I'd like to give MP credit....but one good performance won't make me change my mind over his fuck ups this season.
Good win...3 points, shame Barry got sent off and let the stuffy fuckers Chelsea keep it at 7.
TLMLF and Bony back for our next game...MP has his work cut out dropping someone. Can only see him adding TLMLF and introducing Bony gradually.
Hope Aguero is OK?
Oh...and the referee Mason is a first class TWAT.

Re: Stoke vs City - Live Thread
We won that game because Stoke came on to us and that suits us. If they'd sat back, we'd have had our usual trouble in breaking them down. They had plenty, and I mean at least half a dozen good opportunities, of chances to score more than that single goal. That they didn't helped us tremendously. And Mangala didn't have a really good game. And we sold Boateng for about £12M.
