Monday gossip
While most papers and websites have the Carlos Tevez saga finally drawn to a close - thanks to a strong Roberto Mancini quote in the States - The Sun's Martin Blackburn is having none of it.
As the Mail puts it, "speaking on the club's pre-season tour of North America, Mancini said: 'We have an agreement with Corinthians but Carlos now is still a City player.'
That's the green light surely? But Blaggers, who has impeccable South American contacts as mentioned in previous editions of WTMS, has feretted out a possible late twist in the tale.
He writes that "City want last-ditch talks with Carlos Tevez before they push the button on his move to Corinthians.
"And if their skipper tells them he is still determined to quit, his return to South America is likely to be finalised in the next 48 hours.
"FA Cup winners City are weighing up an improved bid of around £40million from the ambitious Brazilian outfit.
"City are aware they have spent the summer speaking with Tevez's agent Kia Joorabchian rather than the man himself. And the club's top brass are keen to chat to the striker before giving their blessing to his exit.
"While the offer falls way short of their £50m asking price, City are willing to take his personal circumstances into account and the excellent service he has given them.
"They will then step up their bid for his Argentina team-mate Sergio Aguero of Atletico Madrid once Tevez's exit is confirmed."
The Mail online goes with the "Mancini has confirmed an agreement" line, but the back page of the paper itself - old school, it's printed, the newsagent sells them as well as lottery tickets - has the last-ditch line.
Inside, there's a comparison chart featuring Tevez and his possible replacement Sergio Aguerro, who at four years younger and just as prolific comes out looking like a fine prospect.
And under the heading "Euro jackpot", this: "Aguero has scored 16 goals in 34 appearances in European competition. Tevez has scored six in 33. Could Aguero be the key to City’s success in the Champions League?"
Now there's a stat to cheer Roberto, and Blues fans everywhere. Every cloud, eh?
