Nearly a parents worse fear.....
It's one thing when one of your children are involved in a car crash...it's another when you are one minute behind it and as you approach you see your son's car registration is one of the cars involved!!
On a bad junction near our home, on the A41, Ralph tried to edge out to see oncoming traffic and a car took the front of his car off! The impact must have been pretty intense as all 6 airbags went off.
All I saw was his car in the middle of the road facing the wrong way, with the front of his car missing and steam rising from the smashed radiator. Obviously, initial panic set in, as I couldn't see him...but he'd jumped out and was stood on the side of the road. No injuries, just a sore elbow, a headache and a little bit of shock had started to set in.
After the Police came, we got the car off the road and eventually got through to his car insurance company, these were the photos when a recovery vehicle came last night to collect it!!
The Police and Insurance company told us that, as he was turning right into a main road, the liability is with him, regardless. Sadly, his car will be written off, his excess will be £740 and unless he buys another car with what's left with his payout...he'll also be liable for the £600 of monthly car insurance payments still left, as he only took it out a couple of months ago!
Thankfully, he's only got a month left of Uni and then he's going to Nice on a placement!
Lesson...kids, be very careful at junctions. Don't have your heads filled with things like "I need to hurry and go and collect my iPhone X"....which is what he was doing. Rushing to drive to Stoke to collect his new phone because nobody was in to sign for it...even though 10 mins earlier, he called me and I told him to have it re-delivered on Monday - but no, he wanted now!
If Ralph had pulled out just another 3 or 4 feet...the impact would have been into his door..and the result may have been different.
Keep focused!!

I blame the parents....
Seriously though, glad he's alright.
If he has any problems in Nice, give me a call.

Got a friend's daughter just moved from France to Manchester so I've been sorting so much out for her to help her stand on her own two feet (she's only 20 and first time away from home).
I'm just a really nice guy!

Yeah, a split second of sheer panic. But's gone off to work with his brother today, so he's OK.shakencity wrote:Wow Andy.

My one and only accident as a 17 year old was rolling my pride and joy, my black Beetle rushing to make last orders with the lads after finishing work. There is a lesson there for sure.
Glad he is OK Andy, it's just money at the end of the day. Cars can be replaced.

Yeah scott the lesson is you were under age what were you thinking?
I seem to remember putting almost the same scenario on here 2 years ago when my daughter had 1st passed her test and an idiot ran the red light as she was turning across the road.
