Help Needed Empty Help Needed

Post by joeymancityz Thu Nov 03, 2011 12:24 pm

Hi fellow blues,

I posted an article a month or two ago about parking near the ground for the Wolves game, but due to a change in circumstance, the Joey family are now going to the Newcastle game instead (it's the kids first trip). When I go by myself, I walk to the ground from town, but with a 5 and a 9 year old and Mrs Joey, that isn't an option.

Our plan is to get to Manchester for 11ish and park at Cathedral arches, bit of shopping, dinner in the printworks, then on to the game. As we won't be walking from there, where between the two points is sensible to park? I assume Toysrus retail park is a huge no no on match days.

After the game, I need to get onto Mancunian Way to M606 back to M62.

Suggestions would be appreciated.

You can park at the stadium, but it's a tenner. Or there's a million car parks dotted around the area and they are usually a fiver - the Velodrome is a good bet, but there's loads. Or you can park on the street, there's a few you can use that are outside the restricted zone, but they tend to fill up pretty quickly.

DON'T be tempted to park on the street in the restricted zone, you WILL DEFINITELY get a parking ticket and it's sixty quid. Also, don't park in Asda, you'll get done there too.

No idea, mate. I think there's a time restriction because it's a free car park in the centre of Manchester and I suspect, if there is such a restriction, you'd be looking at maybe 2 hours maximum. Plus it's still a bit of a trek to the stadium from there. You might be better off driving up towards the ground. I know how much fun it is getting 5 year olds to walk more than ten feet, so get as close as you can for the minimum amount you want to spend. That said, if you're after a quick getaway to the motorway, you might want to avoid getting too close to Ashton New Road as it comes to a standstill after the game.

To be honest, coming from the East side as I do, I tend not to go beyond Clayton, so I'm probably not the best person to ask...

Oh... try Alan Turing Way, between the Old and New roads, I think there's a car park or two along there, and I think there's a couple of side streets you can park on too. It shouldn't get too static and you can pop quickly onto Ashton Old Road and onto the Mancunian Way without too much hassle.

Cheers again,

will take a peek at Google earth and suss it. Got to drive back to Cleethorpes right after the game so don't want to get caught in too much post match traffic. Plus, I'll have the demoralised geordies heading the same way to contend with

You mean you hope you've got the demoralised Geordies heading the same way.

Oh, and if you're heading Eastwards, you might not want the M606. It's not the way I'd go, at any rate. I'd head towards Ashton or Oldham and take the M60 North to the M62.

drive up Oldham rd towards Newton heath then do a right onto Grimshaw lane. This will take you past the Kippax pub & towards Briscoe lane, loads of car parking around & your a five/ten min walk from the ground.

GLAD to be a help Wink

Where the McDonalds is at Asda, turn up there - go past the Velodrome and park there - £5 and two ways to get out. 5 minute walk to the ground....i usually park there with my boys and its manned by several staff.

It's the buy off of the walk or the traffic out. I've never really had a problem getting out with the traffic from there.

Very true. Although I personally wouldn't risk parking in Miles Platting.

I presume you meant M602 joey?

Go up Ashton Old Rd from Town (passing Merc Direct on left), turn right at lights where Chinese Wholesalers is. Turn 1st left onto retail Pk, parking on there is normally easy. It's a 10min walk to ground but should be ideal for you after the game to get home (as that's the way i go home after games).

Shaken

yes I did mean M602 (the one that goes from Manc way to M62). To be fair, yours sounds like the best suggestion as it is easy to get to from Cathedral arches and easy for a quick getaway (I hope).

Cheers to all for the advice, even ONH who made sense for once.

PPLF- You've obviously never sampled the delights of the Costa del Cleethorpes
