The Ashes down under Empty The Ashes down under

Post by Paulpowersleftfoot Wed Nov 20, 2013 5:46 pm

The Ashes starts tonight,Mrs PPLF and i are pathetically excited and make yet another promise to one another to actually go and do an ashes series down under one year.
It's apparently odd to have a wife into sport, I've always liked cricket but the mrs loves the game with a real passion, her girly mates think she's potty

So onto Brisbane and probably the hardest venue for us to start at,historically he are shit here and we've generally been pretty poor in first tests overseas so I would snatch your hand off for a draw right now
If we can achieve a win or dominant draw at the Gabba,i think we will win the series pretty comfortably but a defeat will be disastrous as I think it will really kick the Aussies on to probably recapturing the ashes
Carberry Cook and Trott really need to score heavily at the top in the series to give us a real foundation for Anderson and co to be able to attack rather than bowl with defending always at the back of the mind like it was for most of the summer, not helped by Cooks conservative captaincy but there you go
I'll back us to win 2-0 but it will be squeaky bum time if we come unstuck at the Gabba

I await wensdis thoughts with interest, she's from Yorkshire she must like cricket

The Ashes down under Empty Re: The Ashes down under

Me and the boy are like kids at Christmas waiting for it to start.
I don't understand all the talk of this being easy, some ex-pros are being far too confident in my mind.
I would not like to guess which way this series is going to go, and I think your point about Aussie momentum is valid. If they get ahead, I think they'll take some overhauling.
I would love to see us win comfortably in Brisbane, that would dampen the crowds as well as the team, but I really don't see it happening.
Whatever happens, I can't bloody wait. The lads on the watch are dreading night shifts for the next few weeks - I shall control the tv remote.

My eldest used to watch cricket with me when he was younger (about 12m old). He'd wake up around 6am and we'd catch the tail end of a day's play down under together. Now both my lads hate cricket on telly and insist on Disney or cartoons.

I also agree that momentum is the key to the ashes, though only England are strong enough to turn around a deficit.

The Ashes down under Empty Re: The Ashes down under

I'm gonna be getting up early in the morning to get an hr or so's live action in before I sludge off to work, so it's an early night for me tonight.

I too would take a draw right now but I can't see that happening....got a feeling there'll be a result in this test. If Anderson's backed up by the other bowlers then England may just get off to that elusive flyer, if not we're gonna have to bat bloody well to salvage anything.

I'm confident we'll retain the Ashes but it's gonna be oh so close...I'm goin for 2-1 England, maybe even 2-2.

Ha Ha PPLF - that made me smile.  I have always loved football - my Dad, brother and myself off to Old Lady Hillsborough to watch the Owls (1st Division then).  I've always been good at sports too - school and college.  But cricket....... nah - have a slight interest but it's just not football or is it just not cricket?
