Team vs Spurs

Looking at Physio Room - no return date for Negredo. Milner(groin) the same and Silva back 29th Jan.
Does Dzeko need a rest again? He seems to have had his little spurt of form....back to a poor game on Sat.
Kolorov could slot in next to Fernandhino and release Yaya as well.
I'm sure MP will stick to his 4-4-2....with Dzeko and Aguero up top....but just an option below.
........................Hart............................
Zab........Vinny...........Lescott........Clichy
..............Yaya.......Fernandhino.......
Navas...............Silva................Kolorov
.......................Aguero......................
Could be a tricky one this:
Townsend and Paulinho back. That's why I'm thinking of Clichy at LB.

Nedge isn't fit, Dawg. It'll have to be Dzeko. But he quite likes the lane, so that should be okay. And perhaps give Jovetic a run out in the second half.

Re: Team vs Spurs
My point was a serious one...
Spurs have Lennon and Townsend back fit. Both play on the right. Kolorov - great going forward, shit at defending pace.
Do the math!
Why give them an option of exposing a weakness - which would be pace on the left with Lescott/DeM and Kolorov?
However, Kolorov has been great going forward and looks solid in a LMF role.....likes to defend high, even as a LB FFS!
Spurs will be a different proposition to the one we played out the Etihad....unbeaten in 6, 5 wins and 1 draw....Sherwood has their tails up.....mark my words....this will NOT be any walkover whatsoever....in fact, it could be a very, very tricky game....and I don't think our usual approach will suffice with them at the moment - the form they are in.
Now, I know MP has said he will not change the way he plays....and he doesn't with Kolorov at LMF.....he just needs to be mindful of the pace they have at RW....and Kolorov at LB, will be either one of 2 things:
1) Skinned for pace
2) Caught upfield by the counter-attack with our CB having to cover....

Re: Team vs Spurs
I take your point, Bluey, but Clichy and Kolarov isn't the left sided solution I'd want to see against the spuds. I'd rather see Silva on that flank as he'd be more likely to track back.
To be honest, I don't think it matters much who we have in defense. The way Sherwood has them playing right now, I'd expect us to be on the business end of a battering, especially since we humiliated them last time out. I suspect we're going to have to stick with Plan A, which is to just outscore them. Tricky, but doable.

Plus don't forget the Edebayor factor, he will be out to prove a point too and is in one of his "I'm up for this" phases.
I also think we go for the you score 3 we will score 6 scenarios and hope for the best.
A draw won't be a disaster.

Think MP will go with
Hart
Zabba VK DeMicky{taker} Kolarov
Navas Yaya Fernando Silva
Beast Aguerooooo
Dzeko if the Beast isn't fit
Sherwood has the Spuds playing attacking football which should be good for us the way we have been playing but as Blue
says it will be a tough game

Never mind for fantasy football, thank christ we've got him to actually play against the spuds! I'll bet every spud out there is now a little bit more nervous about this fixture.

He'll probably go with Kolarov. Given our game with Chelsea isn't until Monday, I don't think he'll be too concerned about resting players.

Not sure about resting players Leo....Kolorov worries me against Lennon.
He tends to get caught out of position too much against pacey players.
I'd rather forgo Kolorov's crossing and attacking capability for Clichy, who at least can attempt to keep up with Lennon and sit at LB, rather than think he is a left winger.

Re: Team vs Spurs
You're right, Bluey, Clichy would be a better option.
But I'm thinking what Pellers would do. He'd think, "The Chelsea game is in 5 days time, so I don't need to rest my best players" and go with Kolarov because he prefers him to Clichy.

I agree. Go with Clichy from the off, if we're infront stick with him.....if we're behind, bring Kolarov on. Simples!!

Re: Team vs Spurs
I think we need to differentiate between who is the best LB, and who is best for the team.
Clearly, Kolorov, on form, is better going forward and supporting the attack than Clichy is, his crossing and potential for goals are also clearly better.....but he has an awful tendency to be caught too far up field and neglect his defensive duties, which means a CB having to come across and cover his position - thereby exposing a weakness in our defence centrally.... a la Cardiff.
I think against better teams, they will have noticed that and WILL look to exploit it as a weakness......
I know we can go along the lines of you score 3 we score 5....buts that's nonsense....no team has gone through a season and won the league by solely outscoring a team....neither can we this season as we know.
Prudence is not a weakness.....only a strength....and Clichy hasn't become a bad player over night.

I'd like to think with Silva, Navas, Yaya, Aguero, Fernandinho and Negredo on the pitch we'd have enough creativity to cope without the creativity offered by Kolarov.

Re: Team vs Spurs
Well, technically, every team that's won the league has done so by outscoring their opponents. That's how you win games...blueboy wrote:I know we can go along the lines of you score 3 we score 5....buts that's nonsense....no team has gone through a season and won the league by solely outscoring a team....neither can we this season as we know.
I know you're right, but as I already explained, I was thinking of what Pellegrini would pick. I guess we'll know tomorrow, but I reckon we'll see the Serbian on the pitch, whether we agree with it or not.

I know...it should have included 'mentality' somewhere..so:
I know we can go along the lines of you score 3, we score 5 mentality...buts that's nonsense....no team has gone through a season with that mental approach and won the league. ...neither should we this season as we know.
There are going to be games that we have to rely on being defensively sound, positionally astute....an all 'attack' mentality will see us come unstuck at some point when a more prudent approach would be better suited.
Any better?

This is exactly what I fear agaisn't Barcelona. We are so used to keeping the ball and attacking that when we play someone like them where we won't see the ball as much I have no idea how we are going to cope.

Re: Team vs Spurs
I can see Spurs trying to move the ball wide at pace, at every opportunity.
I think they'll look to hit balls over the top for Lennon and Adebayor.
I think Navas could be the key tonight...the way he ran with the ball at pace on Saturday.....he could be the one to get them on the back foot and quickly, allowing Aguero to use his movement in the box.
