Why did Negredo leave?

We didn't need the money from selling him, though we will make a handsome profit of around £7M after just one season for a guy aged 29 and injured for the next two months. 

MP says he wants two quality players for each position and with Negredo leaving, we are down to 3 for 2 up front. I agree we can play one off the main striker and that brings Silva, Yaya and even Nasri into the equation. But that still isn't ideal.

MP had the final say on him leaving though, so he must have thought that was the best thing to do. If he's not available to play until November anyway, we're not missing an attacker for the next two months. Then we are two months away from the transfer window if we want to get someone else in.

It's been said that he was pleading with the club to let him go on transfer deadline day. Martin Samuel says it was due to a personal financial situation, nothing to do with football and connected it with his fall from form after his shoulder injury. Maybe MP felt that he was going to be the same striker we had in the 2nd half of the season rather than the 'Beast" we had for about 4-5 months.

If his heart wasn't in it then maybe we are better off without him.

As with any player..if they want away, for whatever reason....better to let them go IMO.

That's why I still wish Yaya would have f*cked off in the summer - as he's playing like he can't be arsed.

Sounds like that is the case. Probably homesickness as well especially as he is & has been sitting around doing very little due to injury

Just amazing that we didnt get someone in as 4th striker knowing how injury prone Sergio & Jovetic were last season

Think we were all wrong about Negredo leaving.  Seems like he had to be the sacrificial lamb due to the size of the squad and the quotas.  Thanks to FFP.

Once he got injured, he was always going to be the one omitted from the CL squad. Also rumours, via Martin Samuel, that he had a financial issue away from football.

Martin Samuel also said this about Negredo:

City have played down the effect of their punishment, as they always intended to reach the point where they can break even – and indeed, expect to do so this year.

Their net spend this summer was about £1.5million, a long way short of Uefa’s cap.

But they were forced to hand in a reduced squad of 21 players, while other clubs have registered the usual 25-man parties.

The sale of Alvaro Negredo on deadline day can also be linked to the punishment – it became clear that the Spain striker was likely to be the player forced out of the squad by the reduction from 17 overseas players to 16.

Negredo expressed his desire to leave when Valencia made a £23.9million offer for him, and that was partly down to the knowledge that he would be excluded from the elite competition, at least for the group stages.

The Blues are confident that the record £49million fine imposed will end up being reduced to £16million as two-thirds of it is suspended and will only be imposed if they stay within spending limits

It's still a £16m fine though. That's a decent centre half!
