C1C Semi - Everton v City Live Thread
First topic message reminder :
So, big game tonight....a draw wouldn't be too bad to take them back to ours for the return leg.
Will or SHOULD Sergio start tonight or would it be prudent to rest him and bring in Kelechi and a strong MF?
Will Joe or Willy start? For me, I'd be happy with team that's competitive but not necessarily full of first choice players, as long as we don't get a thumping.
Hart
Zaba, Ota, Manga, Clichy
Fernandinho, Delph,
Navas, Silva, KDB
Kelechi

IF...there are any doubters out there...and you've recorded the game or can rewind it back - go to the 84th minute and watch the difference between what Fernandinho and TLMLF do and where they both end up in a matter of 10 seconds....and THAT, is the framework summed up as to what he brings to the team.

So let me get this right MP.
We had Lukaku hardly having a header against Mangala in the first half....so, what does he do? Brings on a much slower and smaller player to play against him - and the result?
We are 2-1 down against 10 men and the manager decides to keep Kelechi and Sterling on the bench and bring on.....FERNANDO?
Clown....it's that simple.

From the Manchester Evening news match report
"He has his critics - but Yaya Toure was the dominant player in City’s midfield in this one.
Fernandinho’s performances have eclipsed the Ivorian’s for much of the season, with the Brazilian’s dynamism key to City’s best moments. But it was Toure’s ability to dictate the game that made him stand out at Goodison Park.
His passing was accurate, he always wanted the ball and, wearing the captain’s armband, led by example."

While Barry and Besic ran the show around him, City midfielder Yaya Toure looked every day of his 32 years and more besides.
I think that's a better report of what actually happend

why oh why do we get beaten by teams who, basically, just want it more?

Think you've answered your own question there Dawg.Topdawg wrote:why oh why do we get beaten by teams who, basically, just want it more?
Very, very disappointing display against a bang average and out of form Everton team. If we don't win and get through in the 2nd leg, i'd relieve MP of his duties straight away. They were the lowest ranked team left in the competition, yet deservedly won.....really can't see the top brass being too pleased about that.
Looking on the positive side, it's only half time and we've still got a great chance of getting through.

This is on the BBC website analysis of the game. Following on from Nijinskys post.
A lumbering figure, he had no impact on the game and his contribution was summed up when an attempted forward run in the first half was halted by the pace and power of Besic, who caught the giant Ivorian to tackle and rob him, leaving him stranded on the ground.
Even as City chased their way back into the game in the second half, Toure was nowhere to be seen. Normally such an influence, he was little more than a passenger.
Toure is still capable of moments of brilliance, as he showed when scoring in Saturday's win at Watford - but are the years finally catching up with the man who has been City's talisman so often"

it's been done over and over, even the most athletic and well trimmed players can't run a centre midfield after 32...
he should now be considered a luxury player.. (which admittedly we should be able to afford with the other players around)..
